Senior Partner / Lawyer

Abby R. Rubenfeld is a distinguished Nashville attorney specializing in family law, LGBT and AIDS-related issues, and civil rights litigation. With over four decades of groundbreaking legal work, she has driven advances in equality locally and nationally.

Most notably, Ms. Rubenfeld served as co-counsel for the Tennessee plaintiffs in Obergefell v. Hodges (Tanco v. Haslam). This historic U.S. Supreme Court case brought full marriage equality to the United States in 2015. Earlier in her career, she served as Legal Director of the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund (1983–1988) and successfully led a landmark 1996 challenge that overturned Tennessee’s statute criminalizing same-sex relationships based on state constitutional privacy rights.

Jason Conner serves as a Legal Assistant at Rubenfeld Law Office, drawing on an extensive background in public service, financial investigation, and operational support to assist the firm's legal team and clients.

Before joining Rubenfeld Law Office, Jason spent over two decades with the State of Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury, leading investigations into fraud, waste, and abuse while generating detailed public reports and case files. He further refined his analytical and compliance skills as an internal auditor for the Tennessee Department of Revenue, focusing on internal controls, audit documentation, and administrative compliance. In addition to his investigative career, Jason brings more than 20 years of operations, client service, and event management experience through his work with the Ryman Auditorium and the International Entertainment Buyers Association.

  • Financial & Fraud Expertise: Served two terms as President of the Middle Tennessee Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
